WAYCROSS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities in southeast Georgia are searching for a Florida fisherman whose empty boat was found over the weekend.

Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal tells the Florida Times-Union (https://bit.ly/1ysNLiP ) 57-year-old Johnny Mack Carter was fishing on the Satilla River and had been in contact with relatives who were supposed to meet him at a boat ramp on Saturday.

After the man failed to arrive at the ramp, Royal says his office called the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and launched a search for the man.

Royal says Carter’s boat was found Sunday morning stuck in a small cluster of trees in the middle of the river. Royal says the boat was partially filled with rainwater and his personal belongings and a life jacket were still inside.
