APPOMATTOX, Va. (AP) - Volunteers are being sought for events marking the 150th anniversary of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee’s surrender in Appomattox.

Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and the Appomattox 1865 Foundation have scheduled events for April 8-12. They are seeking about 150 volunteers.

The park’s volunteer coordinator, Alyssa Holland, tells The News & Advance (https://bit.ly/1D7l7FI ) that the sesquicentennial of Lee’s surrender is a once-in-a-lifetime event.

More than a dozen opportunities are available for volunteers, including helping the foundation with lantern tours and a Civil War ball.

Orientation sessions will be held on Jan. 10 and Jan. 24 at the park.

Holland says the park also is expecting 900 re-enactors to participate.
