WASHINGTON (AP) - The federal government says its offices in the Washington area are open Tuesday, though workers have the option to telework or take unscheduled leave because of snow falling in the region.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management, which sets leave policies for federal workers, says non-emergency personnel in and around Washington region can make changes to their schedule. Emergency employees are expected to work.

National Weather Service meteorologist Dan Hofmann says the Washington region had already seen about 2 inches of snow by 8:30 a.m. and that the snow was expected to last through mid-day, with accumulations of 3 to 4 inches in the area.
