WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker John Boehner gained unanimous support from fellow Republicans in the Ohio delegation in his successful bid on Tuesday to serve a third term in the congressional leadership position.
The Ohio Republican garnered the votes of 216 GOP lawmakers as a whole, while 25 other Republicans backed separate candidates or voted present.
The 25 defections was a historically high number for a sitting House speaker, due to dissent from tea-party supporters. However, the 11 other Republican House members from Ohio were not among them.
The four Democrats from Ohio - Reps. Joyce Beatty, Marcy Kaptur, Marcia Fudge and Tim Ryan - all backed Democrat Nancy Pelosi for the House speaker position.
