PURVIS, Miss. (AP) - Lamar County will apply for a Mississippi Department of Transportation grant that would allow the construction of a bike trail/pedestrian path during the expansion of Old Highway 11 in Oak Grove.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/1xNuxF0 ) supervisors voted Monday to authorize Board President Joe Bounds to sign off on an application for a Transportation Alternatives Program grant that would cover 80 percent of the $100,000-$200,000 projected cost of the bike path.

The trail project would parallel a planned, $2.3 million expansion/widening of a 2 ½-mile stretch of Old Highway 11 from Sixteenth Section Road at the Hattiesburg city limits south to Richburg Road.

That project, which currently is in the design phase, is expected to be bid in the final quarter of 2015.
