EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) - A man has been arrested on suspicion of attacking San Diego County deputies with a makeshift slingshot.

A sheriff’s statement says the man also used a tube to shoot ball bearings at the deputies Monday before he was taken into custody with the help of a police dog who bit him on the leg.

The statement says 40-year-old Robert Khazin had called authorities and threatened to kill any deputies who came to his house in an unincorporated area near El Cajon.

Deputies met Khazin in his driveway but they say he again threatened them and fled into his house then shot at them with the slingshot and the ball bearings.

He was taken into custody in his backyard and booked on suspicion of eight counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies reached by phone did not know if he’d hired an attorney.
