COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A deputy director will be the acting director of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.

The State newspaper reported (https://bit.ly/1BDiQOh) that Sylvia Murray has been chosen to replace retired director Margaret Barber.

Murray has been the Juvenile Justice Department’s deputy director of administrative services. Gov. Nikki Haley’s office said a search is underway for a permanent successor for Barber.

The Juvenile Justice Department has more than 1,400 employees to oversee about 140 prisoners and another 8,500 juveniles in other disciplinary programs.
