SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities in San Diego County are looking for someone who seriously injured a poodle by tightly wrapping rubber bands around her muzzle.

The County Department of Animal Services says the white adult poodle was spotted Saturday in a San Diego park. Several rubber bands around its muzzle had cut the dog to the bone.

Animal Services director Dawn Danielson says someone might have been trying to keep the dog from barking. But she calls it a sick action that left the animal in pain for a long time.

The public is being asked to help find the abuser.

If convicted of animal cruelty, he or she could face up to three years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
