PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard and his wife are grandparents for the fourth time.
KCCR-AM reports that the reason why Daugaard kept checking his text messages during the investiture ceremony for the state’s new Supreme Court justice is that one of his daughters had just given birth in Sioux Falls.
Greta Ann Mitchell was born to Laura Daugaard Mitchell and her husband, Jay. The governor says the newborn arrived weighing 8 pounds, 8 ounces.
The governor and first lady Linda Daugaard now have four grandchildren. All have been born during Daugaard’s first term as governor.
Daugaard is to be sworn in for his second term Saturday.
