LA VERNIA, Texas (AP) - One student has been hurt when a South Texas school bus veered off a road and crashed into a wooden fence during its morning route.
Tuesday’s accident involved a La Vernia (luh VER’-nee-uh) Independent School District bus. Authorities are trying to determine what caused the accident in rural La Vernia, about 20 miles east of San Antonio.
Police Sgt. Danny Pitts says the bus carried the driver and four students. One youngster suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene. Another bus transported the children to school as classes resumed Tuesday following the district’s holiday break.
Superintendent Jose Moreno says the bus operator remains on the payroll but won’t be driving during the accident investigation.
The Texas Department of Public Safety didn’t immediately return a message Tuesday.
