McLEAN, Va. (AP) - Voters in parts of Fairfax and Loudoun counties will go to the polls to elect a new member of the House of Delegates.

The special election Tuesday will fill the vacancy created when Republican Delegate Barbara Comstock was elected to Congress.

The 34th House district includes McLean area of Fairfax County and stretches west through Great Falls into parts of Loudoun County.

Democrat Kathleen Murphy and Republican Craig Parisot are running for the seat.

Murphy, a former Capitol Hill staffer for former Texas congressman Charlie Wilson, nearly defeated Comstock in a 2013 race for the seat.

Parisot is a businessman and Air Force veteran.

Polls in the district are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
