RICHLAND, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 13-year-old Amish boy has been killed after he was hit by a car while sledding on the driveway at his family’s central New York home.
Troopers say Sameul Miller was sledding on steel runner Flexible Flyer shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday on his family’s property in the Oswego County town of Richland, on the eastern end of Lake Ontario 35 miles north of Syracuse.
Police say the teen slid onto county Route 28 and was hit by a sport utility vehicle driven by a 44-year-old man from nearby Pulaski (puh-LAS’-keye).
Troopers say the driver tried to avoid hitting the boy but was unsuccessful. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
No charges are pending against the driver.
