MUNICH (AP) - Bayern Munich is giving Denmark defender Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg a three-year contract extension and sending him on loan to Bundesliga rival Augsburg for the rest of this season.

Bayern director of sport Matthias Sammer said Thursday that the Bundesliga champion will extend the 19-year-old Hojbjerg’s contract until 2018 as a “clear sign that Bayern is counting on him in the future.”

He says that loaning the player to Augsburg is a good way to give him more playing time before he returns to the club in July.
