COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) - A good Samaritan has become a victim of theft after he attempted to help a stranger in a Bartholomew County car crash.

Dallas Doan was sitting in his home near Columbus on Tuesday night when he says he heard a boom and the power went out. He tells WTHR-TV (https://bit.ly/1tMbsft ) that he figured a car had crashed into a utility pole, so he hopped in his granddaughter’s car and drove to the scene of the accident.

Doan says the man told him he was OK and asked him to call the police. He says the man eventually pushed him and took off his granddaughter’s car.

Doan says the wrecked car also was stolen from a man in Jennings County whom he knows.

Police are still searching for the stolen red Ford Focus.
