ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - A man accused of killing his aunt and uncle in El Jebel has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

The Aspen Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1xKRK8O ) 33-year-old Williams Amaya, of El Jebel, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to nine felonies, the most serious of which include first-degree murder, attempted murder and tampering with evidence.

He is accused of shooting 40-year-old Mayra Lopez and her husband, 42-year-old Eliseo Lopez, on July 12 at their home, where Amaya had been living. The coroner says they were each shot four times.

Investigators say Amaya told them he killed the couple because they disparaged his family, who Amaya said consisted of Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and John McCain.

Prosecutors say they are no longer considering seeking the death penalty against Amaya.
