ATLANTA (AP) - Tim Downes, Emory University’s athletic director since 2007, has announced his resignation, effective June 30, so he can head the athletics program at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta.

During Downes’ tenure, Emory’s 18-sport program has won eight NCAA Division III national championships.

Emory ranked as the No. 2 program in the nation in the 2012-13 school year. Under Downes, Emory recorded six top-10 finishes in the ranking.

Emory student-athletes earned 32 NCAA postgraduate scholarship and 50 Academic All-American honors in Downes’ tenure.

Downes previously served as athletic director at Franklin and Marshall from 2004-2007 and held a similar post at California Institute of Technology from 1999-2004.
