VERNONIA, Ore. (AP) - A former Vernonia, Oregon, police officer has been charged with luring a minor and attempting to commit sex abuse.

The Columbia County sheriff’s office says 62-year-old Gene Baska was arrested Wednesday. It says the victim is a 13-year-old girl.

Baska was released on bail with an order not to contact the girl or her family. Baska didn’t return a message left at a phone number believed to be his. It’s unknown if he has a lawyer.

Deputies obtained a warrant to search Baska’s home Wednesday night for videos, photographs, audio recordings, text messages and call records.

The sheriff’s office said Baska was at one time a Vernonia police officer. According to his LinkedIn page, Baska was a sergeant who retired in 2001 after 30 years with the department.
