RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - In a story Jan. 4 about new mayors in Colonial Heights and Harrisonburg, The Associated Press reported erroneously that a special election for mayor would be held in Colonial Heights. The special election will be held to fill the city council seat left vacant when Gregory Kochuba was appointed mayor, not to fill the mayor’s seat.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Harrisonburg, Colonial Heights councils name new mayors

Harrisonburg and Colonial Heights councils choose new mayors

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Colonial Heights and Harrisonburg are starting the new year with new mayors.

Media outlets report that Harrisonburg’s City Council chose Christopher Jones to serve as mayor on Friday. Jones won election to the council in November.

Harrisonburg council members choose a mayor from within their ranks every two years.

In Colonial Heights, the City Council appointed Councilor Gregory Kochuba as mayor for a two-year term. Kochuba replaces Scott Davis, who resigned on Jan. 1 to serve as the city’s interim director of planning and community development.

A special election will be scheduled to fill Kochuba’s council seat.
