HOUSTON (AP) - Court records show a settlement has been reached in a lawsuit filed by a lawyer who was struck last year by a vehicle the Houston police chief was driving.

Houston attorney James Harris filed a negligence lawsuit in December against the city and Police Chief Charles McClelland, accusing him of failing to take evasive action when he hit Harris, who was walking across the street.

The accident happened near the Houston Police Department headquarters as the police chief was headed to work in the morning.

The Houston Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1ItNjAN ) reports Harris County District Clerk records on Wednesday showed a settlement was reached, but didn’t disclose its terms.

According to the city, Harris had $14,000 in medical bills, but asked for more than $200,000 in damages.
