KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - A Kalispell man has pleaded no contest to beating his 5-month-old daughter last spring causing injuries that required months of medical treatment and numerous operations.

The Flathead Beacon reports (https://bit.ly/1DC1nr7 ) Brandan Thorne pleaded no contest to felony assault on a minor. The agreement calls for Flathead County prosecutors to recommend a 15-year sentence with the Department of Corrections with 10 suspended when Thorne is sentenced on Feb. 26. He has been jailed since June 27.

Court records say a Kalispell woman called 911 on April 13, 2014, saying she heard what sounded like a baby being beaten in the next apartment.

Prosecutors say Thorne told police he was holding the baby and arguing with a friend on the phone when he tripped. Investigators found texts in which Thorne asked the friend to back up his story.
