LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Officials in Logan have banned e-cigarettes from city parks and other outdoor public spaces.

The 3-2 vote from the Logan Municipal Council came after a short discussion earlier this week.

The Herald Journal (https://bit.ly/14tNlvu ) reports that the ordinance first was introduced in November but a discussion was postponed until the health department could weigh in.

Logan city attorney Kymber Housley says city code includes a prohibition on cigarettes of any kind. But she says the health department wanted it clarified to include electronic cigarettes.

Supporters on the council say it could help educate the public on any harmful effects.

Council member Herm Olsen voted against the ban, saying the effects on people other than the user haven’t been studied thoroughly.
