TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Tallahassee man has been charged in the accidental shooting death of his toddler nephew.

Police say 20-year-old Jaleel Taylor turned himself in at the Leon County Jail Wednesday evening. He faces charges of culpable negligence, possession of a firearm by a delinquent and possession of a firearm with the serial number removed.

Officers responded to Taylor’s home Dec. 29 and found 3-year-old Raymond Gaines Jr. lying on a bedroom floor with a gunshot wound to the face. An autopsy determined the wound was self-inflicted.

Police say Taylor told officers that he normally kept the silver .380 semi-automatic handgun in a box and that he was outside when he heard the gunshot.

The Tallahassee Democrats (https://goo.gl/y15wTq ) reports that police searched the home and found more than a half-pound of marijuana.
