PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A western Massachusetts man has been sentenced to seven months in jail for trying to steal a bag of bones and other items from Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

The Berkshire Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1yHo3Hz ) that 47-year-old Robert Packard of Pittsfield was sentenced Thursday in Central Berkshire District Court after pleading guilty to breaking and entering in the daytime and another charge.

Pittsfield police said Packard was caught rifling through a filing cabinet in an office at the medical center on Nov. 16. Authorities say he tried to make off with a bag of bones from a human anatomy model, magnets, radiology books, office supplies and other items.

A judge granted a request by Packard’s lawyer to allow Packard to participate in an alcohol treatment program in jail.
