ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - University of Michigan students are teaming up with their counterparts from Abu Dhabi University for a four-day solar car race across the United Arab Emirates.

They are participating in the first Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge that starts Jan. 15. The team joins others from six continents competing 745 miles in cars they designed and built.

The Michigan-Abu Dhabi team will drive the Quantum, the Ann Arbor university’s vehicle that won its fifth national title in a row last year at the American Solar Challenge competition.

University of Michigan says the team will consist of three of its own students, nine Abu Dhabi students and seven alumni from previous Michigan solar car teams. This is the first race for the Abu Dhabi students.
