PHOENIX (AP) - President Barack Obama made a previously unannounced stop while going to a midtown Phoenix high school to give a speech on housing.

Obama arrived in Phoenix early Wednesday evening and he spent the night at a north Phoenix resort.

His motorcade left the resort Thursday shortly before 9:30 a.m., and headed via freeways and local streets to a model home in a housing development in south Phoenix.

Obama then traveled to Central High School to deliver the speech.

Afterward, he left Phoenix on Air Force One to return to Washington.

Obama’s trip to Phoenix was part of a three-state swing aimed at claiming credit for recent growth and blunting the momentum of the new Republican congressional leadership.
