COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The state’s first Seniors Week is giving people 55 and older a chance to enjoy discounts on dining, lodging and attractions across South Carolina.

The event which starts on Thursday is sponsored by the state Office on Aging and the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. The discounts continue through Jan. 18.

Seniors Week allows seniors to save money traveling around the state during a traditionally slow time for South Carolina’s $18 billion tourism industry.
