RENO, Nev. (AP) - Officials say one of two boys who fell through the ice on a frozen lake in south Reno Thursday has died.

The 13-year-old boy was submerged for more than a half-hour before he was pulled out and rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

Reno police said in a statement Thursday night that the boy died. He had been in intensive care at Renown Regional Medical Center.

His 12-year-old companion was able to pull himself from the icy waters and call 911 shortly after noon.

Police spokesman Tim Broadway said a 13-year-old was under the ice for 30 to 40 minutes before fire and rescue crews could locate him in the murky water about 25 feet off the shoreline in the small lake behind an apartment complex near Double R and South Meadows boulevards.
