BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Police Commissioner Anthony Batts are poised to announce a new public safety deployment schedule for the police department that will allow officers more flexibility on their beats.

Rawlings-Blake says the new deployment schedule will allow officers to easily respond to emerging crime trends and offer more opportunities for community engagement in neighborhoods around the city.

The announcement, scheduled for Friday morning, comes on the heels of a decline in homicides in Baltimore in 2014.
