RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - Former Riverside County District Attorney Paul Zellerbach has pleaded no contest to vandalizing an opponent’s sign during an unsuccessful re-election bid.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise (https://bit.ly/1xLpfI9) reports Thursday that Zellerbach’s attorney Virginia Blumenthal entered the plea on his behalf to a single misdemeanor count.

She wrote in a note to the newspaper that he would not be making a statement.

Zellerbach was accused of knocking over a campaign sign belonging to opponent Michael Hestrin. The allegation became part of last year’s heated contest for DA that Hestrin went on to win.
