LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts asked for a moment of silence before his inaugural speech after authorities say a 36-year-old legislative aide died in a fall from an apartment building this week.

The Lincoln Journal Star (https://bit.ly/1BO76sk ) reports the man who worked for 15 years for the Nebraska Legislature was pronounced dead the scene on Thursday. Police say they are investigating his death as a suicide.

His family said in a statement that he struggled with depression and a bipolar disorder as an adult. Their statement said that if anything positive can come from his tragic death, then he would want to raise awareness for mental illness and those who struggle with it.

Ricketts was sworn into office as the 40th governor of Nebraska on Thursday.
