RENO, Nev. (AP) - The University of Nevada’s plans for an extensive renovation of Mackay Stadium is scheduled to be complete for the 2016 season opener.

But a Wolf Pack fan is campaigning to get a new scoreboard and sound system in place earlier.

Brantly Compton tells the Reno Gazette-Journal (https://on.rgj.com/1xVZyna ) that the $2.5 million in upgrades could be done this year if enough money comes in by mid-February.

The state Board of Regents approved plans for the more extensive renovation on the Reno campus in December.

The $11.5 million project calls for the addition of an 8,500-square-foot club level on the west side and more outdoor patio space in the east-side suites. Bleachers will be replaced with permanent chair backs, and restrooms will be redone so the stadium more fully complies with disability laws.
