RENO, Nev. (AP) - A 28-year-old Reno woman convicted of attempted murder has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison after she slashed another woman’s throat and left her for dead at a Sparks residence in August.

Washoe District Judge Lidia Stiglich says Megan Pedro will be eligible for parole in eight years.

Police say Pedro got involved in an argument with 26-year-old Elisha Mundell before she cut Mundell’s throat and left her in a bathtub.

Investigators say Pedro returned to cut the victim’s throat several more times as she lay helpless in a pool of blood.

The victim told investigators that Pedro told her she intended to commit a murder-suicide.

Pedro’s lawyer argued for probation based on her lack of criminal history, but the judge ordered the maximum sentence.
