URBANA, Ill. (AP) - An Urbana hospital is considering applying to become Illinois’ only top-tier Ebola treatment center outside Chicago.

Dr. Robert Healy is the chief medical quality officer at Carle Foundation Hospital. He told The News-Gazette in Champaign on Wednesday (https://bit.ly/14tTt6R ) that the hospital is considering the application. State health departments and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control designate Ebola treatment centers.

Four Chicago hospitals are among the 35 facilities around the country designated as top-tier treatment centers for Ebola patients. No cases have been confirmed in Illinois to date.

Healy said Carle is thinking about seeking top-tier status because it is the area’s level-1 trauma center.
