JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - You can count Gov. Bill Walker among those who don’t support moving the Alaska Legislature from Juneau to Anchorage.

Walker says in an email to the Juneau Empire (https://is.gd/ZuSmJs ) he normally wouldn’t commit on any particular piece legislation until it lands on his desk.

However, he tells the Empire: “I do not favor moving the capital from Juneau.”

Incoming state Sen. Bill Stoltze of Chugiak has proposed moving not the capital, but the Legislature from Juneau to the renovated legislative building in Anchorage.

Stoltze has long supported moving state government functions from Juneau, only accessible by air or water, to Anchorage, located on the road system. Stoltze served for years in the Alaska House, including as a co-chair of the House Finance Committee. His bill is being drafted.
