ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) - Kite buggies and other wind-powered vehicles known as land sailors could be allowed on the broad flat beaches of southwest Washington.

The state Parks and Recreation Commission is considering a rule change for state park lands in Pacific and Grays Harbor counties.

The Daily Astorian reports (https://bit.ly/1BOIgsj ) public hearings on the proposal are scheduled Jan. 28 at the Ilwaco Community Center and Jan. 29 at the Ocean Shores Convention Center.

Wind-powered vehicle enthusiasts have been seeking permission. State parks conducted pilot programs in recent years at Long Beach and beaches in Grays Harbor County.

Most of the vehicles look like a go-cart with a large sail. They can reach speeds of 55 miles per hour or more.
