MANCHESTER, N.J. (AP) - Police say a teenage girl is dead after she drowned in a lake at an old mining quarry in New Jersey.

Manchester police say it happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when the 17-year-old went underwater while swimming with two friends at Sarco Lake.

Rescue crews scoured the area and found her 30 feet under water. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead at about 4:20 p.m.

Investigators haven’t released the girl’s name.
