WASHINGTON (AP) - Four fire departments in southeastern Michigan are getting a total of $2.9 million to hire more firefighters.

U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced the funds Thursday that are going to fire departments in Allen Park, Armada, Farmington Hills and Dearborn Heights. Allen Park will get the biggest share of the funds at roughly $1.2 million, followed by Dearborn Heights at around $890,000.

Farmington Hills will get about $695,000, and Armada will get $224,000.

The money comes from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program.
