SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - There’s a new bell-ringing champion in San Francisco after the city’s 52nd annual cable car bell ringing contest.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1fsI8Kp ) that 25-year cable car driver Byron Cobb unseated reigning champion Trini Whittaker Thursday after a tiebreaker 30-second ring-off.

Whittaker had held the title of champion since 2012.

Conductors took turns ringing a bell on cable car No. 52 in hopes of taking home the $500 grand prize and the title of World Champion Cable Car Bell Ringer. Seven competitors showed off their skills after an amateur round, where media personalities competed for charities.

On his win, Cobb said the trick was all in the wrist.
