MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A 91-year-old boat is getting new life as a water taxi and party boat on Lake Mendota (mehn-DOH’-tuh) in Madison.

The 42-foot wood-hull yacht is operating as part of a joint agreement with The Edgewater Hotel to take passengers from there to the University of Wisconsin Memorial Union. The Wisconsin State Journal (https://bit.ly/1L1Cvyj ) reports the 14-passenger yacht went into service June 29 and is among the few water taxis in the state.

The yacht is also giving happy-hour cruises, private events and tours. Yacht owner and captain Patrick Maher says he bought it in 2011 and spent $300,000 to restore it.

The boat is moored at the hotel’s new pier that was completed as part of a $100 million renovation and expansion.
