GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - Flights in and out of Gillette will cost the Campbell County Commission about 85 percent less than in the past.

The Gillette News Record reports ( ) that commissioners on Tuesday approved a $1.74 million air enhancement agreement with SkyWest Airlines, saving county taxpayers about $1 million.

The agreement is a minimum revenue guarantee for the airline. If SkyWest doesn’t sell any tickets, it would receive the entire $1.74 million. If the airline sells out every flight, it would receive nothing.

Last year, SkyWest requested a minimum guarantee of $3.5 million with the city of Gillette agreeing to pay $350,000 and the county agreeing to pay $1.95 million.

This year Gillette has agreed to pay $250,000 and the county will pay $291,000. Both years the Wyoming Aeronautics Commission granted $1.2 million.
