JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Pontotoc County and Northeast Mississippi Community College will share in more than $85,000 from the Appalachian Regional Commission.

The grants were announced this week by Gov. Phil Bryant and U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss.

Pontotoc County is receiving $19,250 from the ARC for the repair of a leaking main water line under Mississippi Highway 6. Another $19,250 comes from local funding.

The water line serves the majority of eastern Pontotoc County, including 25 businesses and 275 residential properties, connecting the northern and southern sections of East Pontotoc Water Association’s main lines in the county.

Northeast is getting $66,628 from the ARC to help buy four welding simulators for use in the welding training program. Another $16,657 is coming from local funding.

The Appalachian Region includes 24 counties in northeast Mississippi.
