ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police say a state trooper’s vehicle was struck by a drunken driver in Alexandria while the trooper was assisting with another DUI investigation.

Police say the trooper was stopped along Interstate-395 early Saturday at 3:13 a.m. with emergency lights flashing. That’s when a car ran into the back of the trooper’s vehicle.

Police say Trooper Z.J. Koon suffered a minor injury to his head due to the crash. He was treated at the scene.

The driver of the car was not injured. He was arrested and charged with DUI and was taken to the Alexandria detention center. Police say additional charges are pending.

The other DUI suspect and another trooper at the scene were not injured in the crash.
