DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - Installation of a wheelchair-accessible gondola on the Ferris wheel at Davenport’s minor league ballpark has been delayed.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1SedgcH ) Davenport officials had planned to finish the gondola in time for a Monday celebration of the Americans with Disability Act at Modern Woodman Park.

However, city spokesman Kurt Allemeier announced Thursday a contractor was delayed. He called the delay unfortunate but was optimistic the gondola would be installed soon.

Federal regulations require Ferris wheels built after 2010 to be ADA complaint.

The Davenport Civil Rights Commission threatened legal action unless the ride was changed.

The 110-foot-tall Ferris wheel opened in 2014 at the park, home to the Quad-Cities River Bandits.
