BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Baton Rouge man has been convicted of murder and attempted murder in a 2011 drug-related shooting in the Spanish Town area.
An East Baton Rouge Parish jury on Friday convicted 29-year-old Cardale Green of second-degree murder in the killing of 28-year-old Derrick Casey and attempted second-degree murder in the wounding of Casey’s acquaintance.
The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1UO7G4S ) Green faces a mandatory term of life in prison on the murder charge. State District Judge Beau Higginbotham will sentence Green Aug. 27. The judge ordered Green held without bail.
Prosecutors argued that Green arranged the drug deal that turned ugly. Police say Casey was shot three times, including once in the heart. Casey’s friend was shot in the buttocks when he ran after the assailants when they fled the house.
