SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Ambassadors Group, the Spokane-based travel company that arranges the well-known People-to-People tours, is going out of business.

The company announced Monday that it will cease operations by the end of the year.

The Spokesman-Review reports the company has been struggling for some time. It laid off 60 people in February and another 40 in June 2014. At the time of those layoffs last summer, Ambassadors Group employed 170 people.

The company reported a 2014 loss of $17.5 million. The number of people who traveled on its various programs fell to 16,092 in 2014, from 18,251 the year before.

The company says layoffs will begin later this month.
