COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man who drowned in the Congaree River in Columbia.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office told local media that 31-year-old James Henry Hutto Jr. died after he and friend went into the river Saturday evening.
Coroner Gary Watts says the sheriff’s department dive teams found Hutto’s body Sunday morning. Watts says an autopsy Sunday showed that Hutto drowned.
Columbia Fire Department spokesman Brick Lewis says emergency search and rescue teams responded and located one person who resurfaced on his own. Lewis says that person did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
