WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. (AP) - Police say family members have identified the 46-year-old man whose body was recovered from the Delaware River in Gloucester County.

The body of Camden native Chris Allen was found by New Jersey State Police at the bottom of the river at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Family members told WPVI-TV (https://6abc.cm/1M5ojWM ) that Allen had jumped off his friend’s boat to go for a swim and the current pulled him under.

Attempts to bring Allen back to the surface were unsuccessful. He wasn’t wearing a life preserver at the time of the incident.

Authorities had been searching for the man since approximately 1:30 p.m. when he first went into the water.

The father of four had just celebrated his 46th birthday on Saturday.
