CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Cedar Falls firefighters rescued a dozen ducklings that fell into a pond overflow drain.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1M67vz0 ) that residents from a nearby subdivision called authorities around 10:30 a.m. Sunday after discovering the ducklings.

Sarah Thuesen of Cedar Falls says she contacted police and animal control, and then the fire department. Three firefighters arrived and pulled the ducks from the drain.

Firefighters say the ducklings darted over to their mother as soon as they were placed back into the pond. Fire Battalion Chief John Bostwick joked about the magnitude of the effort, saying it represented the largest number of lives saved in a day in Cedar Falls.
