INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Crews are restoring power to Indiana customers after a squall line moving across the state knocked out power to more than 50,000.

Indianapolis Power & Light Co. says about 40,000 of its customers were affected by the midday Monday storms but that number was reduced by about 32,000 by late Monday afternoon. Duke Energy also reported outages across central and southern Indiana.

The National Weather Service says 1.3 inches of rain fell in 30 minutes near Greencastle. It says a 61 mph wind gust was measured on the Indianapolis west side.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says high water from the heavy rains closed a portion of the U.S. 20/31 Bypass in South Bend.

Downed trees and power lines were reported across the state.
