MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say an injured kayaker has been rescued from the Cahaba River.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Steve Jarrett said in a statement that the agency searched for the kayaker by air Monday and rescued the man from a stretch of the river near Shelby County.

Officials say the kayaker left for a trip July 7 and was expected to be gone for several days but did not return July 12 as scheduled.

Alabama Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier says the man was airlifted to a waiting ambulance. Details on the extent of the kayaker’s injuries weren’t immediately available.
